Gina Belafonte is an award-winning Producer, Director, Actress, Educator, Prison Abolitionist, and Freedom Activist. Co-founder of Sankofa.org, Gina has been using art as a tool for over 25 years to communicate messages of hope and civic engagement.

Gina Belafonte is the Executive Director of Sankofa. Since 2018 Sankofa has partnered with The Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) Social Equity Inclusion initiatives to explore the intersections of social justice in the arts and more.

Gina Belafonte is amongst a group of women who sat at the feet of those who were on the front lines of the Civil Rights Movement. They carry the oral history, cultural values and wisdom passed down to us by some of the revolutionary leaders who turned the tide of American history.
